Soak vent grilles in warm soapy water for five minutes. Scrub the slats with a soft brush. Rinse and dry completely before reinstalling. Wet grilles attract more dust than dry ones.
Wiping the visible grille and a few inches of the duct opening handles surface dust. What lives deeper in the duct is a different matter.
