Vinegar Descaling Cycle
Fill the tank half with white vinegar and half with water. Run a full brew cycle and dump the liquid. Run two more cycles with plain water to rinse out the vinegar smell.

Tucson tap water is very hard. Calcium scale builds up in coffee makers two to three times faster here. Clean your machine once a month to keep it working well.

Descaling removes calcium from the water lines and heater. You have two good options: white vinegar or citric acid. Citric acid has no smell and rinses out fast. Vinegar works but needs extra rinse cycles to clear the odor.

Mix two tablespoons of citric acid powder in one liter of water. Pour into the tank and run a brew cycle. Follow with one plain water rinse. Citric acid has no odor.
Wash the carafe and filter basket with dish soap and warm water after each use. Coffee oils build up fast. A clean carafe keeps each cup tasting fresh.
Most tap water has some calcium. Tucson water has a lot more than average. Scale coats the heater and water lines. This slows brew time. The machine works harder and can wear out sooner.
Alex's kitchen clean includes a wipe-down of the outside of the coffee maker. We leave a descaling reminder card for the homeowner. Our crew notes the machine brand so the card matches your model.
Once a month works well here. Tucson water has two to three times the minerals of most cities. In softer-water towns, every two to three months is enough.
Citric acid is easier to use. It has no smell and rinses out in one cycle. Vinegar costs less and cleans just as well. It needs two or three extra water cycles to clear the odor.
The carafe and filter basket are usually safe in the dishwasher. Check the bottom of each part for the dishwasher-safe symbol. Never put the base or heater in the dishwasher.
