Dry Sweep First
Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove grit and debris. Grit scratches the clear coat if mopped over. Use a soft brush vacuum attachment, not a beater bar.
Floor Care Guide
Laminate floors need a nearly dry mop. Excess water seeps into the seams and causes the planks to swell and lift. Never use a steam mop on laminate.

Laminate looks like wood but acts very different. It has a print layer under a clear coat over a wood-fiber core. Water that gets into the seams swells the core and lifts the edges. You cannot fix this without replacing the planks. In Tucson, Saltillo tile and laminate are both common but need very different care. Alex's protocol differs by surface type.

Wring your microfiber mop until almost no water comes out. Mop in small sections. Go over each section with a dry microfiber cloth right after to pick up any remaining moisture before it seeps in.
Use a laminate-safe floor cleaner or a 1:10 dilution of white vinegar in distilled water. Apply to the mop, not the floor. Never pour liquid directly onto laminate.
Streaks on laminate come from too much cleaner or water left on the surface. Use less solution and follow each wet pass with a dry pass. On dark laminate, dry right away after mopping so moisture does not leave visible lines.
Alex's protocol differs by floor surface. On laminate, we use a nearly dry mop and never a steam mop. On Saltillo tile, we use a different method for the porous surface. Knowing the floor type is the first step.
No. Steam forces moisture into the seams and edges. This causes the plank core to swell, warp, and lift. Laminate manufacturers void warranties if steam mops are used.
