How to Clean Marble Surfaces Without Etching or Staining

Marble is a soft, porous stone. It reacts to acids fast. Vinegar etches the polished surface in seconds. So do lemon juice, citrus sprays, and most bath cleaners. Homes in Catalina Foothills and Ventana Canyon often have marble floors and counters. Alex's team is trained on marble-safe products for every visit.

Daily Cleaning

Use a pH-neutral dish soap diluted in warm water. Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth. Rinse with plain water and dry with a clean towel right away. Never let water sit on marble.

Dust Mopping First

Before wet cleaning marble floors, dust-mop with a soft cloth to remove grit. Grit scratches the polished surface when you mop over it. Always sweep before you wet clean.

Spill Cleanup

Blot spills right away. Do not wipe or spread them. Rinse the area with plain water to neutralize any acidic liquid. Dry the spot with a soft cloth.

What to Use and What to Avoid on Marble

  • Safe: pH-neutral dish soap and warm water.
  • Safe: plain water for rinsing spills.
  • Safe: soft microfiber cloths for wiping.
  • Avoid: vinegar, which etches marble on contact.
  • Avoid: lemon juice and citrus cleaners.
  • Avoid: bleach and ammonia-based sprays.

Why Acids Damage Marble Permanently

Marble is made of calcium rock. Acids eat into this rock and dissolve the top layer. The result is dull, rough patches called etch marks. They look like water stains but are damage to the stone. No amount of cleaning removes them. Only a pro with polishing tools can fix them.

Alex's team uses only mild soap and water on marble. We never use multi-surface sprays or acid cleaners on marble floors or counters. Catalina Foothills and Ventana Canyon clients with marble get safe product choices on every visit.
